A capacity gathering of Tom’s Team at the Bryant Park Grill in Manhattan braved the torrential rain on Saturday to honor our beloved friend.

Leading basketball personalities and friends of Tom gathered in Manhattan on Saturday to honor two basketball greats. The Thomas C Konchalski Foundation conferred its Lifetime Achievement award on Coach Vito Montelli and the Values of the Game award on Coach Pete Gillen.
It’s been two years since men’s basketball Coach Steve Konchalski retired after 46 years behind the bench at St. Francis Xavier University, His legacy still looms large in Antigonish, N.S. Andrew Sampson of cbc.ca wrote.

Tom served on the player selection advisory committee from the inception of the McDonald’s All-American Games in 1977. That inaugural game featured Magic Johnson in an event that would become the pinnacle of high school basketball competition.

15-20 PSAL boys will attend each of 8 workout sessions at gyms in Manhattan, The Bronx, Brooklyn and Queens. The focus is on basketball skills, teamwork and sportsmanship.
